Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that one of the most rewarding parts of his music career is knowing his songs inspire confidence in people who struggle to find motivation.
Davido shared the sentiment during a recent interview, saying the impact his music has on listeners means more to him than the success, streams and recognition that come with making hit records.
I am just happy that my music is bringing confidence to people who do not have the motivation.
He said that message lies at the heart of his song “I Know Who I Be,” which encourages listeners to believe in themselves instead of comparing their journeys with those of others.
You cannot live my story. You should be confident enough to live your story.
Davido explained that everyone has a unique path in life and that embracing it with confidence is more important than trying to replicate someone else’s success.
He also praised African music for its ability to uplift people, saying songs from the continent carry an energy that gets people moving regardless of the emotions or stories behind the lyrics.
The award-winning singer said the music video for “I Know Who I Be” reflects his own journey from chasing his dreams in private to celebrating success with the same friends who stood by him from the beginning.
If you look at the video, the full-circle moment was my guys and me in black suits. Some of my friends and I used to sneak out to do music and perform at shows. Now everybody is proud of me. We are standing in the same place we used to hide in, and now we are shooting a whole music video.
The moment, Davido said, serves as a reminder of how persistence can transform years of hard work into success.
For him, that journey has become just as meaningful as the impact his music continues to have on listeners, especially those who draw confidence and motivation from his message.
