Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has revealed that despite the demands of his office, he is a passionate music lover with a special appreciation for gospel music.
Speaking during an interview on Sanyuka TV, Byabakama said his music taste is broad and includes both Ugandan and international artists.
However, he admitted that gospel music remains his preferred genre because of the inspiration and peace it gives him.
I listen to so many, and some are foreign, in West Africa, in Uganda… any artist singing gospel… I enjoy that. These other ones, I’m sorry, I don’t follow your music a lot.
I can travel from here to Gulu listening to gospel music. There are so many that I like from our local musicians. I don’t have any specific preference of an artist.
The Electoral Commission boss also spoke about his relationship with social media, saying he is not an active user because his busy schedule leaves him with little time to keep up with online trends and discussions.
“But I always tell people, even those that abuse me, I don’t care as long as you don’t destabilise the country with your content,” he said, stressing that he is more concerned about responsible use of digital platforms than criticism directed at him.
Away from his official responsibilities, Byabakama said he prioritises staying healthy through regular exercise. He also revealed that farming is one of his favourite activities, giving him a chance to unwind whenever he has free time.
