Douglas Lwanga links decision to avoid alcohol to memories of abusive father

Media personality and event organiser, Douglas Lwanga, has revealed that childhood traumas stemming from his father’s alcoholic ways forced him to make a decision not to drink alcohol at all.

In a conversation with MC Kats on the MC Kats UG Talks podcast, Lwanga revealed that his father was an alcoholic and whenever he was drunk, he would beat up his mother.

The NBS TV presenter says that the image of her mother crying has never left his mind and growing up, he made a decision never to drink alcohol because it is dangerous.

He states that he would never wanna go down the same path as his father did because it left unresolved childhood traumas.

Not taking alcohol was based on my dad. When I was young, my dad used to send me to buy him crude alcohol. Every time he would consume it and get high, he would beat up my Mum, domestic violence. My mum would carry me on her back, crying, and take me to my grandmother’s place.

There is a lot of childhood trauma around that. So I made my decision never to touch that bottle because that image has never left my mind. Each time I see alcohol, I see danger.
