For more than a decade, Bad Black was one of Uganda’s most outspoken advocates of skin bleaching, never shying away from documenting her cosmetic journey or defending her decision to lighten her complexion.
Now, the controversial socialite says that chapter of her life has come to an end.
Shanita Namuyimbwa, popularly known as Bad Black, has announced that she is abandoning skin bleaching after 13 years, saying she wants to embrace her natural complexion and allow her children to know the woman behind the public persona.
The socialite made the revelation through a series of emotional posts on Snapchat, where she reflected on the years she spent altering her appearance and declared that she was ready to stop “hiding.”
“I have been bleaching my skin for the past 13 years, but it’s finally time for my children to embrace and see the real woman who gave them life—the woman who has sacrificed everything for them. I’m done hiding,” she wrote.
Bad Black said the decision marks the beginning of a new chapter centred on self-acceptance, adding that she no longer feels the need to alter her skin to feel confident.
“Forget bleaching. I’m done. This is the real me, and I’m choosing to love every part of myself,” she added.
Her announcement comes just weeks after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and 360 liposuction procedure, from which she is still recovering. She joked that the cosmetic surgery would be the only enhancement she needed going forward.
“Now that I’m well-shaped with my BBL, why should I pressure myself with skin bleaching? I’m sure I will look so beautiful carrying my BBL with respect and integrity,” she wrote.
As part of the transformation, Bad Black says she is considering wiping her digital footprint clean by deleting photos and videos showing her lighter complexion from Instagram and TikTok.
She described the move as a “rebirth,” saying she wants to reintroduce herself to followers as a woman who proudly embraces her natural melanin.
“I’m also considering deleting all my Instagram pictures because reborn Bad Black is melanin, dark chocolate, sexy mama. I will delete all my TikTok videos to rebrand the new me this August.”
Known for her lavish lifestyle and unapologetic personality, Bad Black has remained one of Uganda’s most talked-about socialites for more than a decade, often making headlines for her relationships, legal troubles, cosmetic procedures and outspoken views.
Her latest declaration has already sparked mixed reactions online, with some followers applauding her decision to embrace her natural appearance while others questioned whether the transformation would be permanent.
For Bad Black, however, the decision appears to go beyond appearance.
She says she wants her children to grow up knowing the woman she truly is—not the image she spent years creating.
“The moment I walked out of that theatre, the masks were off. I am what I always wanted to be,” she wrote.
Whether the decision marks the end of one of Uganda’s longest-running celebrity beauty transformations remains to be seen, but for Bad Black, it represents a fresh start—one she hopes will be defined less by changing her appearance and more by accepting it.
