Falz says his rise to fame made it increasingly difficult to continue practising law, prompting him to focus fully on his entertainment career.
Speaking on the Behind The Story podcast, the rapper and actor explained that he successfully balanced music and law for a period after qualifying as a lawyer in 2012.
However, his growing popularity eventually changed everything.
According to Falz, one appearance in court showed him how much his public profile had grown.
There was a day in court when I announced my appearance, and the judge asked, ‘Are you not the one doing something on the side?’
The entertainer said colleagues already knew him because of his father, Femi Falana, while many others had begun recognising him as a musician.
As more people associated him with entertainment, Falz feared clients would question whether he had enough time to dedicate to their legal matters.
Rather than struggle to balance two demanding careers, he chose music and acting, a decision that has helped him become one of Nigeria’s most successful entertainers.
