Flavour Opens Up About His Two-Year Battle With Addiction

Long before he became one of Africa’s biggest highlife stars, Flavour says he fought a private battle that nearly changed the course of his life.

The award-winning singer, born Chinedu Okoli, revealed during a TikTok Live session that he struggled with what he described as a two-year addiction after losing contact with the woman with whom he had his first sexual experience at the age of 24.

According to Flavour, the experience left him emotionally devastated and marked the beginning of one of the darkest chapters of his life.

Hoping to find a way forward, he turned to his mother’s pastor, who guided him through prayers, fasting and Bible study.

Although the spiritual guidance gave him hope, Flavour admitted he later relapsed.

Instead of keeping the struggle to himself, he sought advice from an older member of his band, whose support helped him regain control of his life.

The singer said opening up about the addiction was not easy because he felt ashamed, but he realised he could not overcome the challenge alone.

Having someone he trusted, he explained, became a turning point in his recovery.

Today, Flavour looks back on that difficult period as one of the lowest moments of his life.

By sharing his story, he hopes others will understand that asking for help can make all the difference when facing personal struggles.

Years after overcoming those challenges, Flavour rose to fame with his breakthrough hit “Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix),” a song that became one of Nigeria’s biggest highlife records and cemented his place among Africa’s leading music stars.
