Police have arrested more suspects in the murder of Villa Sports Club captain Owor David, with the number of people in custody now reaching four.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said investigators are closing in on the people believed to have been behind the attack that left Owor dead.
Speaking at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, Rusoke said the breakthrough came after detectives traced Owor’s stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The phone led police to suspects believed to be buyers of stolen phones.
“From the process, we managed to go forward and arrest suspects whom we believe are the buyers of these stolen phones,” Rusoke said.
Police then made further arrests, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to four.
Rusoke, however, said the investigation is not yet over and more arrests could follow.
He said detectives are now focusing on identifying the people who directly attacked and injured Owor, injuries which later caused his death.
Police last week revealed that the stolen iPhone had led them to Munyaneza Bashir, alias Jemo, a suspected dealer in stolen phones, and his associate Magoba Samuel.
A major haul of suspected stolen phones was also recovered during the operation.
The exhibits included 80 iPhones, 40 Samsung phones, eight Redmi phones, two Tecno phones, two Infinix phones and two Vivo phones, among other devices.
Police also recovered three button phones, four phone motherboards, three iPads and SIM cards from MTN, Safaricom, Airtel and Lyca.
Ladies’ bags containing identification documents, phone covers and hard drives were also recovered.
Police are now trying to establish the wider network behind the stolen phones and, more importantly, trace the people who attacked Owor.
Rusoke said details of the suspects would be released later as investigations progress.
Villa Sports Club captain Owor David died on August 5, 2026, after sustaining serious injuries in an attack by suspected robbers in Kampala the previous night.
He was reportedly attacked and beaten before being found unconscious and rushed to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
