Police are hunting for an unidentified man who attacked a family with a substance suspected to be acid, leaving four people injured, including two children.
The attack happened on Thursday, August 6, at about 7:45pm in Kasimbi Busimbi Cell, Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality.
Police said the suspect took advantage of a power blackout and went to the home of Mr Luminsa Francis.
Wearing a maroon jacket, the man reportedly asked children at the home where their mother was. The children led him to the sitting room, where their mother was with other family members.
The suspect then allegedly sprayed the occupants with the suspected acid before fleeing.
The attack caused panic as the victims screamed for help, attracting neighbours who rushed to the scene.
Those injured were identified as Nankumba Prossy, 43, Namugga Teddy, 17, Nalukenge Robina, 10, and Ssekaggo Jeremiah, 6.
The four were rushed to Mityana General Hospital for treatment.
However, the attacker remains at large and has not yet been identified or arrested.
Police said the suspect was only identified by the clothes he was wearing at the time of the attack.
Investigators who visited the scene recovered a container believed to have been used to carry the substance. The suspect’s maroon jacket was also recovered along the route he reportedly used to escape.
Samples of the substance have been sent to the analytical laboratory for forensic examination to establish exactly what it was.
Police also recorded statements from the victims and witnesses as part of the investigation.
By the time of the police statement, all four victims were in stable condition. Three had been discharged from hospital and were continuing with medication and close monitoring.
Police have appealed for information that could help identify and trace the attacker as investigations continue.
