Samson Kasumba has heard the questions about his age, the calls for younger journalists to get more space and the suggestions that his time on television should eventually come to an end.
His latest message suggests he has heard them all, but he is not particularly interested.
The prominent journalist, news anchor, and theologian has made it public that there is one thing he is not willing to trade away: television.
Any opportunity that will take me away from television I am not interested in. Let me make this public. I am madly in love with television and that will not change.
That is a fairly definitive answer from someone who has spent years in front of the cameras.
Kasumba has previously leaned into the debate around his age, including in July 2025 when he challenged younger journalists to become exceptional enough to take his place in the anchor chair.
Rather than signalling an exit, however, his latest remarks sound like a reaffirmation.
Television is still where he wants to be.
And at this stage of his life, Kasumba says he is not chasing every opportunity simply because it carries the appearance of progress.
There are not that many things left in my life to find for me to be very happy.
His comments then took an unexpected turn, touching on another idea often associated with success: leaving Uganda.
Kasumba pushed back against the assumption that everyone dreams of living abroad.
If you have not lived abroad you think everyone wants to live there. There are people who have already decided that is not their kind of life.
For Kasumba, the destination is not automatically better simply because it is somewhere else.
And neither is the next opportunity automatically better if it takes him away from the thing he still loves most.
