Ugandan singer Namugonza Maureen Peace, popularly known as Ava Peace, believes the music industry has felt that shift.
Speaking during a chat on Galaxy TV, Ava Peace reflected on the state of Ugandan music and said the year has favoured politicians more than musicians.
So far, it has not been good for the music industry. It has been better for politicians than musicians.
The political calendar has been particularly busy, from the presidential and parliamentary campaigns to the January elections and the Local Council polls that followed.
For artists trying to release music, promote shows and build momentum, that has meant operating in a public space where political stories have often commanded the loudest attention.
The year has leaned more into politics than music. There has been little focus on music, with more attention going to politics.
Still, Ava Peace is hopeful that the balance will shift and musicians will once again have room to capture the public’s attention.
Let us just pray that everything falls back into place and the focus returns to the music.
