The driver of a Toyota Hilux involved in the fatal road crash that claimed the lives of two Next Media employees on Entebbe Road has been arrested.
Kigozi John Baptist was arrested during a joint inter-agency operation conducted on Thursday night as investigations into the crash continue.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:00am on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Namulanda near Stabex Petrol Station along Entebbe Road.
According to Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, the crash involved a Toyota Allex, registration UA 779DE, and a Toyota Hilux, registration UAS 976W.
The occupants of the Toyota Allex were three employees of Next Media, including Badru Kasirye, Isaac Ndamagye and Sanyuka TV presenter Brian “Makona” Ssemanda.
Kasirye and Ndamagye died as a result of the crash, while Ssemanda sustained serious injuries and was admitted to intensive care.
His condition has since improved. He has been confirmed to be out of danger and is expected to be discharged from hospital within two to three days.
Polices said the suspect will be produced before court at the appropriate time to face the charges arising from the incident. Further details on the specific charges will be provided as the case progresses.
The three colleagues had reportedly attended a celebrity boxing event at Supremacy Lounge in Nakulabye, featuring TikTok personality Chicken Chicken and comedian Shawa.
After the event, they were travelling towards Entebbe to pick up a friend who had just arrived at Entebbe International Airport when their vehicle was involved in the collision.
Kasirye and Ndamagye were later laid to rest separately.
Kasirye, who was widely known for his energetic lifestyle content, celebrity interviews and entertainment coverage, was buried in Bunamwaya last Friday.
Ndamagye, who also worked in content creation at Next Media, was buried on Sunday.
Their deaths have been a major loss to Next Media and the wider Ugandan media fraternity.
The company had earlier this year lost reporter Julius Kitone, who died in a separate road crash along the Mbarara-Sanga Road.
