Vinka is days away from her maiden concert, but media personality Douglas Lwanga has taken a moment to reflect on the difficult start that shaped her journey in Uganda’s music industry.
In a message to the singer ahead of her “Vinka Live & Loud” concert, scheduled for Friday, August 21, at Lugogo Cricket Oval, Douglas recalled the criticism Vinka faced when she first entered the scene.
He described her introduction to the industry as a “baptism of fire,” noting that she faced intense negativity but refused to give up.
Your welcome to the ug music scene was a baptism of fire. So much negativity was thrown your way, yet you never backed down. Must have been hard,you could have chickened out, but you pressed on.
Douglas said Vinka eventually answered her critics through her music, releasing several hit songs and establishing herself without rushing into a concert.
He particularly praised her patience, pointing out that some of her fellow Swangz Avenue artists had already held their first shows while she continued to build her career.
That patience, he suggested, revealed something about Vinka’s character and approach to her career.
Douglas also looked back to Vinka’s earliest days on television, recalling the first interview he conducted with her after unveiling her on The Beat.
He asked the aspiring singer how far she wanted to take her career, and her answer showed that she had international ambitions from the beginning.
I also remember your very first TV interview while i unveiled you on the Beat, I asked you how far you wanted to go, and you said, “To the Grammys.”
Douglas jokingly reminded her that the Grammy dream remains a work in progress.
And yes we still waiting.
For now, Vinka has a major milestone of her own to achieve.
Her maiden concert, organized by her management label Swangz Avenue, will bring together fans who have followed her career from her early days to her current position as an established Ugandan artist.
