Ugandan singer Lydia Jazmine has revealed that becoming a solo artist was never part of her original plan, saying she was comfortable working behind the scenes as a backup vocalist for the GoodLyfe Crew.
Speaking during an interview on KFM’s DHook, Lydia said she was content earning money, paying her tuition and supporting the group without thinking about building a career of her own.
Honestly speaking, I had never thought I would be a solo artist. I did not have that in mind.
Her plans began to change when members of GoodLyfe started encouraging her to step out from behind the scenes and test herself as a solo performer.
Lydia recalled that Radio, Weasel, producer Bushingtone and artist manager Jeff Kiwa were among those who kept encouraging her to step into the spotlight.
Radio was like, ‘Don’t you want to sing? Don’t you think you can sing?’ Everybody was behind my back.
The encouragement eventually convinced Lydia to give herself a chance.
Bushingtone later became her personal manager as she began pursuing her solo career, helping guide her through the early stages of her journey.
Lydia then recorded her first solo project, “You Know,” featuring Rabadaba.
The song became a hit and gave her the confidence to continue pursuing music on her own.
I tried myself out with the first song, ‘You Know’ featuring Rabadaba, and it hit, and yeah, there was I.
