Veteran media personality and dramatist Charles James Senkubuge, known as Senkubuge Siasa, has launched a fundraising drive to support playwright and actor John Segawa’s wedding ceremony.
Senkubuge pledged Shs10 million towards the wedding while calling upon veteran single members of the creative industry to get engaged to partners and avoid living lonely lives.
He made the pledge during the vigil of the late veteran playwright and actor Alex Mukulu, which was held at the National Theatre as creatives gathered to pay tribute to his life and celebrate his immense contribution to Uganda’s theatre and arts industry.
Senkubuge used the occasion to encourage creatives, particularly single men, to consider marriage and build families that can offer them companionship and care in their later years.
According to Senkubuge, no man should grow old or pass away in loneliness, stressing the importance of having a partner and family.
A man doesn’t deserve to pass on while living alone. A man needs to marry. Their are my children that I desired so much to witness their wedding functions, but I haven’t witnessed any.
From Eagles Production, I think I witnessed one or two marital unions. Now, I want to establish a fundraising drive, and I’ve placed Shs10 million contribution towards John Segawa’s wedding.
Senkubuge’s initiative comes as the creative fraternity continues to mourn Alex Mukulu, whose decades-long career left a lasting mark on Uganda’s theatre and performing arts.
The fundraising drive is expected to rally other creatives and well-wishers to contribute towards making Segawa’s marital celebrations a memorable occasion and bring an end living a lonely lifestyle.
