Mother Stabs Own Two Children Dead, Injures Three Others

Police are investigating a 43-year-old mother after two of her children were killed and three others seriously injured in a suspected stabbing attack at their home in Bunga, Makindye East Division.

The incident happened at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday in Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala.

The woman, identified as Namayo Dorothy, a Kenyan national, was also found injured and is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard. According to eye witness reports, Namayo first called her husband, who didnt spend the night home at 4:00am and informed him that she was going to kill their children and commit suicide.

The husband who was reportedly driving back home on Entebbe Road called the area LC1 identified as Mubiru Mary, to run to his residence and rescue the situation. However, by the time she arrived , the deed had been done. Children were lying helpless in separate pools of blood. The eldest was already dead following deep stab wounds that left her intestines allegedly pouring out. The second was hanging to life by a thin thread with similar stab wounds. And a car was on fire in the compound.

Police say a housemaid was awakened by an alarm and cries for help coming from the main house.

When she went to check, she found several of the children with severe stab wounds.

Khadija Daizy, 14, was found dead in her bedroom, while her seven-year-old sister, Hawa Dalena, later died while receiving treatment at Nsambya Hospital.

Three other children, aged 13, eight and five, survived the attack and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

KMP Deputy Police Spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire says that they are treating the children’s mother as the suspect as investigations continue to establish what happened inside the house.

During the incident, a Toyota Hiace vehicle parked at the home was also set on fire and completely burnt.

Fire and rescue personnel responded and extinguished the blaze, while detectives recovered a jerrycan suspected to have contained petrol from the scene.

Homicide detectives and Scene of Crime Officers examined the house and collected exhibits for forensic analysis.

The bodies of the two deceased children were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Police have registered the case at Kabalagala Police Station as murder, attempted murder and arson.
