Joshua Baraka will face some of East Africa’s biggest music names after earning a nomination for Best East African Artiste at the 18th Headies Awards.
The Ugandan singer-songwriter joins Tanzania’s Abigail Chams and Harmonize, Kenya’s Bien, and Rwanda’s Bruce Melodie in the race for the award.

The category recognises outstanding artistes and groups from across East Africa, placing Baraka among some of the region’s most established and popular acts.
His nomination also gives Uganda another representative in the category after Azawi earned a nomination at the 17th Headies Awards.
The 18th edition considered music released between August 1, 2024, and April 30, 2026, with this year’s ceremony set for October 25 in Toronto, Canada.
Baraka now joins a competitive race, with the question being whether he can beat Bien, Harmonize, Bruce Melodie and Abigail Chams to bring the Headies award to Uganda.
