Police have arrested another seven suspects in connection with the murder and robbery of former Sports Club Villa captain David Owor.
On August 8, police announced the arrest of 2 suspects after tracing Owor’s stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max.
On August 11, Kampala Metropolitan Police announced that the number had risen to 17 suspects comprising 3 suspected stolen-phone promoters, 5 key suspects and 9 associates. Now the Uganda Police Force issued a fresh update referring to 7 suspects who were arrested through the latest intelligence-led operation and linked to Owor’s murder and other robberies.
Owor was reportedly robbed of his mobile phone and other belongings during the attack near his residence on August 4, 2026, before he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police say an intelligence-led investigation helped detectives trace Owor’s stolen mobile phone, leading them to a network allegedly involved in dealing in stolen electronic devices.
The suspects are also being investigated over other violent robberies reported in Nsambya, Nabisaalu and Makindye.
Four of the seven suspects Ahumuza David, Lubega Martin, Ssegawa Francis and Munguci Elvis have reportedly been strongly linked to other crime scenes.
Police say some of the suspects are connected to the alleged robbery of a Congolese national in Makindye Division on August 4, the same night Owor was attacked. The victim was reportedly assaulted with a blunt object and robbed of a mobile phone and other property.
Investigators have also linked Ahumuza David and Magumba Arafat to an aggravated robbery involving Mugisha Edrisa, who was allegedly struck with a blunt object during the robbery in Makindye on July 31.
Police have warned members of the public against buying cheap phones and other valuables from suspicious sources, saying the illegal market for stolen property creates a ready market for criminals.
The public has been urged to buy electronic devices from legitimate dealers, verify IMEI or serial numbers where possible and report suspected stolen property to Police.
Police say investigations into Owor’s murder and the other robberies are continuing.
