Australia Bars Fully AI-Generated Music From Official Charts

Australia is drawing a clear line between music made with AI and music made by AI.

The Australian Recording Industry Association has announced that fully AI-generated songs will no longer qualify for the ARIA Charts.

The decision follows the success of an AI-assisted version of Madonna‘s “Like a Prayer,” which sparked debate over whether music created with artificial intelligence should compete alongside songs made by human artists.

The new rules do not ban artists from using AI. Instead, they allow musicians to use the technology as a creative tool while requiring eligible recordings to remain substantially human-made.

The changes will take effect with the ARIA Chart dated August 31, 2026.
