Oscar-winning visual effects artist Phil Tippett has shut down the Berkeley studio that helped create some of Hollywood’s most memorable movie effects.
Tippett and his wife, Jules Roman, founded Tippett Studio in 1984.
The company worked on major films including “Star Wars,” “RoboCop,” “Jurassic Park” and “Starship Troopers.”
Now, a liquidation sale is putting models, props, artwork, equipment and other pieces of the studio’s history up for sale.
Tippett won Academy Awards for his work on “Star Wars” and “Jurassic Park,” while his stop-motion work influenced generations of visual-effects artists.
The studio filed for bankruptcy protection in 2024 after years of financial difficulties.
Tippett will keep his two Oscars, but the closure marks the end of the Berkeley studio after more than 40 years.
