Bruno K has a message for anyone who thinks an expensive lifestyle automatically makes someone classy: money and class are not the same thing.
The Ugandan singer took to social media to reflect on how people judge others by their cars, clothes, homes and the places they can afford to visit.
But he believes those things only show what a person can buy.
There is a difference between classy and expensive.
Bruno K said some of the classiest people he has met had very little money, while some wealthy people lacked the character he associates with genuine class.
Some of the classiest people I have ever met had very little money, and some of the richest had absolutely no class. Because class has absolutely nothing to do with how much money you have, and I think we’ve forgotten that.
He said real class comes through in everyday behaviour, especially when someone is angry, challenged or denied what they want.
It also means knowing when to apologise, when to keep quiet and when to walk away from an argument instead of trying to win it.
Bruno K also singled out the habit of making other people feel small as one of the clearest signs that someone lacks class.
And most importantly, it is never needing to make someone else feel small so you can feel big.
His argument comes down to what money can and cannot buy.
You can buy expensive clothes. You can buy expensive cars. You can buy expensive tables at expensive restaurants, but you cannot walk into a store and buy character.
