Why David Lutalo Rarely Attends Fellow Artists’ Concerts

David Lutalo has pushed back against suggestions that his absence from fellow musicians’ concerts has anything to do with money.

The Ugandan singer-songwriter says he does not expect fellow artistes to pay him when he performs at their concerts.

We sing for our fellow musicians for free. You cannot ask your fellow musician for money to sing at their concert, but one should also take responsibility and invite me if they need me because we also hold concerts and invite the people we need.

Lutalo addressed the subject during a recent appearance on Sanyuka Uncut, where he also explained why fans do not often see him at concerts organised by other artistes.

He said he cannot simply turn up at another musician’s show without an invitation or a place on the programme.

It is not that you have to go to every concert. They have to invite you. You cannot just take yourself there without a programme. I believe that is what everyone should do because if you do not have a programme, why are you going there? It is like a wedding or any other function. If they have not invited you, you have no business going there.

If an artiste wants Lutalo at their concert, he says the invitation should come first.
