Prince Edward Kijanangoma Rukidi has been named as the new Omukama of Tooro Kingdom, according to the latest reports emerging from the kingdom.
Prince Edward will succeed the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away on August 27, 2026, at the age of 34 after reigning over Tooro Kingdom for more than three decades.
The reported announcement comes just days before the burial of King Oyo, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Tooro Royal Tombs.
The succession of the Tooro throne has been a subject of intense speculation since King Oyo’s death, with different names being mentioned as possible successors.
Earlier reports had suggested that George Kamurasi Desmond David could take over the throne, while questions also surrounded claims that King Oyo had left behind a biological son who could potentially succeed him.
The naming of Prince Edward Kijanangoma Rukidi therefore brings an end to the uncertainty surrounding the next occupant of the Tooro throne.
