Ronald Mayega, also known as Omunyarwanda Wa Bobi, and Swaibu Kakaire, were charged and remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of making defamatory and false statements against Local Government Minister Hon. Balaam Barugahara.
The duo appeared before Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nakamya Jatiko, where they denied the charges against them.
Prosecution alleged that Mayega and Kakaire used their TikTok platform to publish statements accusing Minister Balaam of engaging in acts of sodomy, among other allegations.
They are facing charges of publishing false information, operating a media outlet without a Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) licence, and conspiracy to commit an offence.
Prosecution further alleges that the two used their online platform, [one.one.ug.media], to make claims linking Balaam to alleged attempts to incite Mayega and other individuals to engage in acts of disorder.
Following their appearance in court, the magistrate remanded the two suspects to Luzira Prison until September 28, 2026, as police continue with investigations.
The court also directed prison authorities to investigate allegations that the suspects were tortured while in custody.
