Suno Makes Major Move With Warner Music Group and BMG as AI Music Enters New Era

Suno has launched a new generation of artificial intelligence music models as the company tries to build a closer relationship with the music industry.

The company unveiled its v6 lineup on Wednesday, September 9, with Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe among its industry partners.

The launch marks a major shift for Suno after years of tension between artificial intelligence music companies and record labels over the use of copyrighted recordings.

Suno says its new v6 models offer faster performance, higher quality and greater control for people creating music.

The company has introduced three models: v6, v6-Wild and the free v6-mini.

Suno co-founder and chief executive officer Mikey Shulman described the launch as a major step for the company.

Today we are taking our biggest step yet toward that vision.

Shulman said Suno wants artificial intelligence and the music industry to work together rather than remain on opposite sides of the copyright fight.

We believe this is a blueprint for how AI and the music industry can strengthen one another and build entirely new product experiences for artists, fans, and the broader music community.

The new models will replace Suno’s previous generation as the company moves its platform entirely to v6.

Suno also says it plans to create products that allow individual artists to opt in and receive payment when fans use those experiences.

What comes next is a new kind of product we are developing: opt-in experiences built around individual artists, where artists can choose to participate and get paid when they do.

The move comes after Suno settled a copyright lawsuit with Warner Music Group and struck licensing agreements with major music companies.

The company says more than 100 million people have used its platform.

Suno’s new approach could therefore change how artificial intelligence companies and music rights holders work together, particularly if artists can directly participate and earn money from AI-powered music experiences.

For an industry that has spent years fighting over whether artificial intelligence should use artists’ work without permission, Suno is now betting on a different model: work with the music industry, license the music, and give artists a chance to share in the money.
