Fast-rising Afro Electronic DJ Richard Ndagije is betting big on Uganda’s Afro Electronic scene, but fellow DJ Kamali has raised one issue that could make investors hesitate: ego.
Ndagije took to X with a confident prediction, arguing that investors who back Ugandan Afro Electronic DJs and producers now could see big returns within the next two years.

Kamali pushed back, pointing to ego as one of the challenges that could make investing in Uganda’s House music DJs difficult.

Ndagije acknowledged that some DJs have egos, but he pushed back against the idea that the problem defines the entire scene.

Four Names He Says Tell a Different Story
To back up his point, Ndagije pointed to four names he believes show that Uganda’s Afro Electronic scene has plenty of DJs who are focused on building, supporting and growing the culture.
He highlighted DJ EL, describing him as down-to-earth and pointing to Elixir, his platform that has empowered young people through music, creativity and mentorship despite having limited resources.
Ndagije also singled out Aweko Brian and his We Are Wan initiative, which he said has helped young creatives develop their skills in DJing and music production before moving into music releases through the We Are Wan Music label.
He said the initiative has supported more than 150 Afro Electronic DJs and producers in the past two years alone.
Nach Mao and La Fabrika Creative Hub also made Richard’s list, while he described Slugface as a “genius” who continues to make things happen despite having little to work with.
Why He Thinks the Scene Is Worth Backing
Ndagije believes investment in Uganda’s Afro Electronic scene should go beyond paying DJs for gigs and instead support the wider communities growing around them.
Investing in DJs, producers and their collectives is worth it. When you invest in these communities, you are not just supporting entertainment; you are supporting talent, livelihoods, creativity and the next generation of African electronic music.
For him, the real opportunity lies in giving young creatives the backing they need to keep building, creating and finding their place in the industry.
And while Kamali sees ego as a potential stumbling block, Ndagije is confident that Uganda’s Afro Electronic scene has young creatives worth betting on.
Sometimes, all these young creatives need is someone to believe in what they are building. The return on investment will be great.
