KAMPALA — The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has rescued 149 children in an ongoing crackdown on child exploitation within the city.

In a post on X yesterday, KCCA said the operation rescued 26 boys and 123 girls who were found in circumstances linked to exploitation.

The authority said the rescued children would be transferred to Musulita Children’s Home, where they will undergo rehabilitation, psychosocial support and preparation for eventual reintegration with their families.

KCCA warned members of the public against using children for begging, loitering, hawking or vending, saying such practices constitute a criminal offence.

According to the authority, anyone found using children for such activities risks up to six months’ imprisonment or a fine determined by a court of law.

The crackdown is part of KCCA’s ongoing efforts to address child exploitation and maintain a safer and more liveable capital city.

KCCA urged the public to desist from involving children in commercial activities and other forms of exploitation, warning that offenders will face legal action.

The authority said the operations will continue as it works to protect vulnerable children and ensure they are returned to safe family environments.

The remains of the late Tooro King, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, have begun the journey back to Uganda, with his body expected to arrive in the country on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Footage circulating online showed the King’s coffin at a cargo facility in the United States as relatives, friends and other mourners gathered to see him off before the remains were flown home.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport at about 10 a.m., President Yoweri Museveni is expected to receive the remains and pay his respects to the fallen monarch.

The return journey will continue from Entebbe, with the remains expected to be flown to Kyegegwa before being transported by road to Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City.

The choice of Karuziika Palace is rooted in Tooro royal customs governing the handling of a deceased monarch. Under the cultural traditions of the kingdom, the body of a king is required to remain at the official palace rather than being taken between different royal residences.

His arrival at Karuziika Palace will also mark the beginning of the kingdom’s formal mourning rites.

A nine-day mourning period is expected to commence once the remains are received at the palace, where the late King will lie in state as preparations for the final burial rites continue.

After the mourning period, the remains will be taken to the Karambi Royal Tombs, the traditional burial site for Tooro kings, for interment.

The return of the King’s body is expected to draw members of the royal family, cultural leaders, government officials and mourners as the kingdom prepares to bid farewell to a monarch whose reign began when he was still a child.

Lydia Jazmine was in the middle of rehearsals at Eno Beats Studio in Makindye on Wednesday when the music suddenly stopped.

What followed was not part of the singer’s rehearsal schedule.

Ronald Tumwizere took over the moment with an unexpected rendition of Jazmine’s song Cherie, catching the singer off guard before joining her for an impromptu performance.

The playful interruption was later revealed to be more than just a surprise visit. It marked the announcement of V&A Sherry’s partnership with Jazmine ahead of her The One and Only Concert, scheduled for Friday at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The partnership brings the drinks brand on board as the singer prepares for her second major concert, with the collaboration centred on supporting Ugandan music and women in the entertainment industry.

The association with Jazmine follows a series of engagements with platforms that have put women and Ugandan talent at the centre of their activities, including the Miss Uganda and Miss Universe Uganda pageants, as well as the Unite for Women Concert and Geosteady’s concert.

Tumwizere said Jazmine’s career and the brand’s focus on supporting women made the partnership a natural fit.

“As V&A Sherry, we stand for supporting Ugandan talent, and we are also a sorority built on empowering one another, which is why partnering with Lydia Jazmine was a no-brainer,” he said.

“We are proud to stand with Lydia as she continues her musical journey and to connect with her growing fan base. Her concert gives us another opportunity to remind people that the moments and wins we work for, big or small, are truly Yours to Share.”

Jazmine has spent more than a decade in Uganda’s music industry, building a catalogue that has earned her a following across different generations of music fans.

Her upcoming concert is expected to draw from that journey, with songs such as You and Me, Masuuka, Kapeesa and Same Way among the tracks expected to feature in her performance.

The singer welcomed the partnership, saying she was looking forward to sharing the concert experience with her fans.

“I am so grateful to the V&A team for supporting me on this. Fans should come ready to be entertained and to have a great time with me and to toast to the concert with Uganda’s favourite Sherry. Bannange mujje nga mwaaka,” Jazmine said.

Beyond the performances, V&A Sherry will have a dedicated bar at the venue, where concert-goers will be able to sample the drink in different serves, including neat pours and cocktails.

Shamsa Nalumu has emerged as Miss Uganda Central after beating a field of contestants at the regional finale held over the weekend at Motiv Bugolobi.

The event brought the regional leg of the Miss Uganda search to a close, with young women from across Central Uganda competing for an opportunity to advance to the national stage.

For the contestants, the competition was as much about representing their communities as it was about winning the crown. Each entrant sought to use the platform to showcase her confidence, personality and ambitions while carrying the name of her hometown into the next phase of the competition.

The finale also blended pageantry with entertainment, with singer Nina Roz providing the night’s musical highlight. She performed some of her popular songs, including Andele, Onoozina and Billboard Kipande, keeping the audience engaged as the competition progressed.

Away from the stage, attention also turned to the international Miss World campaign of the reigning Miss Uganda, Trivia Elle Muhoza.

Miss Uganda Foundation chief executive officer Brenda Nanyonjo used the occasion to appeal to Ugandans to rally behind Muhoza as she represents the country at the Miss World Pageant.

“Guys, this is a plea that you tell everyone you know to support Miss Uganda Trivia Elle, who is raising the Ugandan flag on the global stage. Wherever you are, spare some time and vote for her to win. Let us stand in solidarity with her; she needs our support,” Nanyonjo said.

The evening eventually returned to the competition, with the final results confirming Shamsa as the regional winner.

Naluwu Hilda finished as first runner-up, while Kagabo Jazmine was named second runner-up.

The conclusion of the Central regional contest means the nationwide search has now moved another step closer to the final stage. Contestants who have emerged from the different regional competitions will proceed to a Miss Uganda bootcamp, where they will undergo preparation and training ahead of the national finale.

The grand finale is scheduled for October 10, 2026.

Speaking after the Central leg, V&A Sherry brand manager Roy Ronald Tumwizere congratulated the successful contestants and reflected on the journey that began in Jinja.

“I am really happy that we have finally reached the end of the regional tour. From where it began in Jinja City to the central region, we have seen young women across the country step forward with confidence, represent where they come from, and give themselves a chance to dream bigger,” Tumwizere said.

He congratulated Shamsa, Hilda and Jazmine on their respective finishes and wished the remaining finalists well as they prepare for the next stage of the competition.

With the regional search now complete, attention shifts to the bootcamp, where the successful contestants will compete for a place at the national finale and, ultimately, the Miss Uganda crown.

Former Mwasuze Mutya host Stella Nante has appeared to take a swipe at Flavia Tumusiime after the NTV programme’s head of broadcast asked viewers to give their honest opinions about the show.

Flavia recently took to X to ask viewers what they would like changed or added to Mwasuze Mutya, shortly after Nante announced her departure from the programme after two years.

“I need your honest review of Mwasuze Mutya the show. What I could change or add. Thank you,” Flavia posted.

Nante has now responded to the post, suggesting that Flavia should have sought the public’s opinion earlier.

“I wish that, even as you were BEGGING and PLEADING with me to stay, you had taken a moment to ask what the public thought.”

The pointed response has sparked speculation among social media users about the circumstances surrounding Nante’s departure and the relationship between the two media personalities.

Nante announced her exit from Mwasuze Mutya on September 1, saying the decision had been made two months earlier after she gave considerable thought to the direction she wanted her career to take.

She said she was leaving to focus on other projects but did not disclose details of her next move.

Her departure came shortly after Flavia invited viewers to review the show, with some online users reportedly calling for changes to its hosting and comparing Nante with former presenter Faridah Nakazibwe.

While Nante’s latest post appears to reference the situation, she has not explicitly stated that her departure was caused by Flavia’s request for public feedback.

The exchange has nevertheless added a new twist to the changes surrounding Mwasuze Mutya, with viewers now closely watching what comes next for the popular morning show.
