Benon Mugumbya states reasons for Zafaran’s Swangz Avenue exit, rubbishes conflict rumors

Swangz Avenue boss Benon Mugumbya has finally spoken out about the reasons behind Zafaran’s exit and the unwanted dramatic nature it has been made to seem.

On 25th June 2026, Zafaran, via her social media pages, issued a statement announcing her departure from Swangz Avenue, a label she was signed to in March 2022.

Despite highlighting that the decision was met amicably with the label, the changing of her brand name to Zafar hinted at a conflict with her former bosses.

Further reports were hinting at her losing her YouTube channel following her exit, something critics again blamed Swangz Avenue for.

Benon Mugumbya, however, rubbishes such narratives. In a video shared on his TikTok page on Wednesday afternoon, he clarifies that both parties agreed to part ways after a business evaluation.

He noted that Zafaran’s exit has been dramatised by a section of bloggers, but Swangz will continue to support her because she is a disciplined artist, one whose talent they have always believed in.

A couple of months ago, we had to make that tough decision to end our partnership with Zafaran. It was purely a business decision, nothing dramatic. It’s common practice in our line of work to evaluate whether the partnership still makes sense. The math has to keep mathing.

So we had that difficult conversation, but we were unable to issue a statement because of prior business engagements with a European promoter.

Unfortunately, last week she put up a statement and did an interview stating that she has changed her name and started a new YouTube channel, which insinuated that we had stopped her from using her name, which is not the case.

The issue has now been resolved, and we are in the process of handing over everything. Her exit is not as dramatic as it has been depicted by some bloggers; it’s purely business, and we’ll keep supporting her in any way possible. We still believe in her talent, and she is very disciplined. That’s it, no drama.
