Tooro Kingdom has confirmed that His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru is in critical condition, dismissing growing speculation and unverified reports that the monarch had died in the United States.
In an official communication issued to the Abatooro and the general public, Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki appealed for calm and urged the public not to spread rumours about the King’s health.
“This is to inform you that His Majesty King Oyo is currently in a critical condition,” the statement reads.
The communication comes after reports began circulating on social media claiming that the 30-year-old monarch had passed away while receiving treatment in the United States.
The Kingdom has not disclosed details about King Oyo’s condition or the nature of the illness.
Instead, the Prime Minister asked the public to keep the King in their thoughts and prayers as the Royal Family goes through what he described as a difficult and deeply concerning period.
“We humbly ask the people of Tooro, our friends and well-wishers in Uganda and across the world to keep His Majesty in their thoughts and prayers,” Rwomiire said.
He also urged the public to avoid sharing information that has not been confirmed by the Kingdom.
“We equally appeal to everyone to refrain from speculation, rumours or sharing unverified information regarding His Majesty’s condition,” he added.
The Kingdom acknowledged the anxiety surrounding reports about the King’s health but called on the public to exercise restraint and respect the monarch and his family.
The statement said official updates would be communicated through the Kingdom’s recognised channels when appropriate.
“For now, we ask that we stand together in prayer for His Majesty,” the Prime Minister said.
King Oyo ascended the Tooro throne in 1995 at the age of three, following the death of his father, King Patrick Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. He remains one of Uganda’s youngest traditional monarchs and has since grown into the role as head of the Tooro Kingdom.
